Over my years of traveling, I have invariably researched each intended destination, and planned my own adventures, including walking routes, to take in the attractions I wanted to see.

Occasionally, I would join a guided walk, or purchase a prepared self-guided one. However, these have often proved to be a bit of a lottery.

Sometimes the walk was a real ‘winner’, giving me a wonderful experience. Other times it was quite disappointing, being a waste of my money and my time. However, I did learn what makes the difference between a good and a bad walking tour.

My Self-Guided Walks are meticulously curated to ensure they are ‘fit-for-purpose’. I walk each route numerous times, testing my map and walking directions, while also becoming familiar with any changes in the terrain.
Self-Guided Walks all come with comprehensive information about each attraction on the route. This includes historical detail, usually with a focus on the people stories that belong to the attraction.

For my Tour Guides for Free, I also spend time walking each route, to work out the best walking directions, and to familiarise myself with the map. These too, are carefully curated, to ensure the directions are simple and accurate.
